The Most Unlucky Casino Player Ever

The famous saying ‘lucky for some and unlucky for others’ is so true in the case of this unlucky casino player. Usually when we talk of casinos we relate to luck, money, games, food, people, excitement, prizes and so on…but hardly of ill luck and misfortune. However, Fouad-al-Zayat of Syria is an excellent example of having a stroke of serious bad luck. In March 2000, Fouad-al-Zayat tried his luck at Aspinalls a private gambling club in London. Blackjack and the European roulette game being his favorite casino games he tried his luck at a couple of tables.

He signed for 500,000 pounds and promptly lost the entire amount, and instead of feeling saddened and scared, he asked for another 500,000 pounds and lost that too. After losing a million pounds any person in their right mind would call it quits, and believe that it was not their day and sadly walk out. But Fouad al-Zayat was different and went on to lose bigger sums and finally walked out owing the casino two and a quarter million pounds. Fouad-al-Zayat did not seem to learn a lesson, and in the next seven years to follow he lost over 23 million pounds all at Aspinalls, over a number of casino games.

It sounds absurd that a person would keep allowing himself to get into more and more losses, but Fouad-al-Zayat is definitely a unique person, and although he is so very unlucky at casinos he is extremely successful in real life. He has managed to make good all these losses and pay his debts through highly successful investments in oil, aviation and construction. All said and done you need to have nerves of steel to carry on losing.
